The Allman Brothers Band

The Allman Brothers Band is one of the greatest rock bands of all time. With their blend of rock, blues, jazz, and country their versatility and musicianship has been unmatched. Many other southern rock bands such as Charlie Daniels, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, 38 Special et al came along. While very successful and great bands in their own right, no one equaled the Allman Brothers Band.

In the late ‘60s to early ‘70s the Fillmore East in New York was the premier rock concert venue in the US with shows put on by promoter Bill Graham. In a time when such acts as Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, Jefferson Airplane, CSNY, and Led Zeppelin played there, the Allman Brothers were once called “Bill Graham’s house band” because they played there so often. He thought they were the greatest of all. George Kimball of Rolling Stone magazine hailed them as “the best damn rock and roll band this country has produced in 5 years”. The current lineup has just announced another historic run of shows at New York’s Beacon Theatre.
